Carly Hibberd

Carly was a shining example to all
young women involved in cycling.
Tragic news came through during the Tour de France today that 26-year-old Australian professional rider Carly Hibberd was hit and killed by a car during a training ride this morning in Italy. The Giro Donne, currently in progress in the country, has announced that the awards ceremony today will be conducted in a sombre manner without festivity.

Hibberd was riding with Columbian Diego Tamayo when the accident occurred, as reported by the Italian Ininsubria newspaper. Tamayo, thankfully, escaped unharmed.

Carly was an enormously popular rider on the women's circuit, especially in Australia, and provided a shining example to all young women becoming involved with the sport. Our condolences to her family, friends and many, many fans.

PodiumCafe will shortly have messages from those who knew her.
